Summary

'All animals are equal - but some are more equal than others。'

When the downtrodden animals of Manor Farm overthrow their master Mr Jones and take over the farm themselves, they imagine it is the beginning of a life of freedom and equality。 But gradually a cunning, ruthless élite among them, masterminded by the pigs Napoleon and Snowball, starts to take control。 Soon the other animals discover that they are not all as equal as they thought, and find themselves hopelessly ensnared as one form of tyranny is replaced with another。

Enjoyable and accessible。 Not a complete page-turner but very thought-provoking without forcing you to stop and think on every page if you do not want to。

I had to read animal farm for my English class but I never expected for it to be so interesting。 I really liked the book even though it was not my cup of tea。

Wonderful book and the main idea。 Brilliant comparison with Soviet Union regime。 All things which were in USSR Orwell shows in his story: dictatorship, police power, propaganda machine, history substitution and imaginary enemy which unites animals。 What is more important that this history of the local farm can be projected on our society。

Infuriatingly accurate。。。。

I first read this book quite naïvely expecting a short story with a fascinating moral and nothing more nor less, seen as I didn't know anything about Orwell's attitude to literature。 Even so, I enjoyed it a lot and thought it was very cleverly written and thought through。 Having read it a second time, knowing what I was going into, I appreciated it even more and was able to see the gradual development of the story and the parallels between the characters and events and the real history that Orwe I first read this book quite naïvely expecting a short story with a fascinating moral and nothing more nor less, seen as I didn't know anything about Orwell's attitude to literature。 Even so, I enjoyed it a lot and thought it was very cleverly written and thought through。 Having read it a second time, knowing what I was going into, I appreciated it even more and was able to see the gradual development of the story and the parallels between the characters and events and the real history that Orwell was criticizing。 It's not my favourite book of his but it sure is a good one。🥈📖 。。。more

Felt like it might be fun to revisit this classic and I was correct … if you haven’t read it, or haven’t read it lately, I recommend checking it out。 Pretty fun listen … funny at times, ironic at others … overall semi-entertaining。I cannot stress enough though, how utterly awful the narrator for the version I had was。 If I ever see his name again, I will absolutely run far, far away。 I strongly recommend literally any other format/version。 (Borrowed mine from my local library。)It does drive an a Felt like it might be fun to revisit this classic and I was correct … if you haven’t read it, or haven’t read it lately, I recommend checking it out。 Pretty fun listen … funny at times, ironic at others … overall semi-entertaining。I cannot stress enough though, how utterly awful the narrator for the version I had was。 If I ever see his name again, I will absolutely run far, far away。 I strongly recommend literally any other format/version。 (Borrowed mine from my local library。)It does drive an always-relevant message: freedom is only a mirage when you’re being exploited。 And? Someone is always lying in wait to exploit you … Wake up。 Overall 4 stars。⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ Note:Narrator Ralph Cosham was pretty awful … especially when he sang。 This is a man who should never, ever sing, unless perhaps there’s a need to torture someone。 I recommend reading the book or listening to any other version。 1-star performance。 SO BAD。 。。。more

Wow, wow, wow。 What a book。 A beautifully created satire that over exaggerates the ideology of communism。 The book opens to the oppression caused by Mr Jones, the main farmer at Manor Farm in England。 Then one night, the most notorious animal on the farm, Old Major, calls upon the animals of the farm。 He talks of life with green hills with which no human beings have stepped upon。 He talks of all animals living equally, and life will be good without human beings living with them。 To then sing the Wow, wow, wow。 What a book。 A beautifully created satire that over exaggerates the ideology of communism。 The book opens to the oppression caused by Mr Jones, the main farmer at Manor Farm in England。 Then one night, the most notorious animal on the farm, Old Major, calls upon the animals of the farm。 He talks of life with green hills with which no human beings have stepped upon。 He talks of all animals living equally, and life will be good without human beings living with them。 To then sing the later infamous song of “beasts of England。”And with that, the animals of Manor Farm starts its rebellion。 We see how animals are manipulated, animals take power。 And that sometimes, you become the thing you most oppress。 A beautiful story and a quick read, Animal Farm is a classic and should be read by all。 One of my favourites。 。。。more

A classic that I didn't think I would enjoy as much as I did。 The reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is that the plot itself was really frustrating at times。。。 otherwise it's a fast read (started it on one evening and finished it the next day) and quite enjoyable。 A classic that I didn't think I would enjoy as much as I did。 The reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is that the plot itself was really frustrating at times。。。 otherwise it's a fast read (started it on one evening and finished it the next day) and quite enjoyable。 。。。more

“Animal Farm” by George Orwell was published in 1945。 Somehow, I escaped reading this in high school。 It’s a freebee with audible audio。 I needed a 3+ hour entertaining listen for a day trip, so I chose this freebee。The audio narrator, Ralph Cosham, has the perfect voice。 His voice is that of the time-period, adding to the feel of the story。 For those who, like me, dodged this high school classic, it’s a satire on the Russian Revolution。 The animals live on Mr。 Jones Manor Farm, and it’s a group “Animal Farm” by George Orwell was published in 1945。 Somehow, I escaped reading this in high school。 It’s a freebee with audible audio。 I needed a 3+ hour entertaining listen for a day trip, so I chose this freebee。The audio narrator, Ralph Cosham, has the perfect voice。 His voice is that of the time-period, adding to the feel of the story。 For those who, like me, dodged this high school classic, it’s a satire on the Russian Revolution。 The animals live on Mr。 Jones Manor Farm, and it’s a group of pigs who motivate the farm animals to revolt and take the farm, make it into the Animal Farm。I had to cheat to see who the pigs represent。 There is Old Major, Napoleon, Squealer, and Snowball。 Their rally cry: 4 legs are good, 2 legs are bad (although it was an amended that some animals are more equal than others)。Orwell’s main message is that total power corrupts, even when idealism is at play。It was a fun 3 hour listen。 。。。more

I loved this book for various reasons, and even if it’s a satire about the Russian revolution, you can easily adapt it to any country, even to several situations。What I really love about this book (and about 1984 too) is that it not only makes you question the people that have more power over the citizens, but it makes you think about your role too。 Are you accepting everything that’s being said by someone just because their power and rank, why are we not questioning, why do we sometimes act so I loved this book for various reasons, and even if it’s a satire about the Russian revolution, you can easily adapt it to any country, even to several situations。What I really love about this book (and about 1984 too) is that it not only makes you question the people that have more power over the citizens, but it makes you think about your role too。 Are you accepting everything that’s being said by someone just because their power and rank, why are we not questioning, why do we sometimes act so blindly? 。。。more

This felt very much like one of those classic books with lots of symbolism that you are supposed to read in Highschool。 It was very well done and had some fascinating ideas and made me think about government and ruling classes/ideologies, in a whole new way。

"And remember also that in fighting against Man, we must not come to resemble him。"I think every aspect of this book is just done so well。 The references and symbolism aren't at *all* subtle, but I don't think it's forced down our throats either。 Orwell definitely could have made the book longer, but chose to finish the story before it came too stretched out and repetitive。It's also quite short and really easy to read。 I remember reading this in like year 8 or 9? Honestly, if I had read it in year 6 I don't think I would have had any trouble following the plot。Despite having so much to analyse, I don't think I really have much more to say about it。 It was really good, almost every single detail included had some sort of allegorical significance if not a direct payoff。 I think the discovery of (view spoiler)[Squealer changing the commandments, only for it not to be a major point (hide spoiler)] was cool。 At first I was disappointed it didn't act as the catalyst to anything in itself, but I feel it's actually stronger with the idea that the animals knew brining it up would lead to their deaths and/or the animals were too brainwashed to comprehend the significance of what happened。I think this book is definitely one of the strongest books written both topic, theme, structure, etc。 I would say it's one of those books that everyone should read at least once。 。。。more
